IN YOU I SEE ME

We learn who we are through each other. The people closest to us often become our greatest spiritual teachers, showing us our blind spots and our brilliance in equal measure. Even moments of friction or trigger carry hidden invitations: to notice, to reflect, to transform. What we notice in others, whether painful or luminous, becomes the very material of our own growth.

On another level, this mantra expands beyond the personal. Across differences of culture, belief, race, or upbringing, we can always find ourselves reflected in others, because our humanity is shared. To recognize this is to dissolve judgment and step into compassion.

In this painting, the phrase IN YOU I SEE ME repeats in a rainbow spectrum across raw linen, like voices in a choir. Each color, like each person, is distinct, yet together they harmonize into unity. The mantra becomes a mirror: as you read it, you find yourself reflected back.

Placed in a home, studio, or public space, this work offers a gentle yet radical reminder of our interconnectedness. As Thich Nhat Hanh,  the father of mindfulness, reminds us: “We are here to awaken from the illusion of our separateness.”

Part of the series "Mantras"

Hubby’s broad range of text-based work in the Mantras series shares the use of positive, aspirational verbiage, which aim to uplevel attitudes and behavior. They are both a physical manifestation and a passive sender of experience dependent neuroplasticity, changing neural pathways through positive reinforcement.
